This PR makes the HTML pretty printing a bit prettier and a bit less noisy.
It revives the whitespace inside / around concept from #5533, but with a twist: Rather than speaking in absolutes, tags merely suggest whether they want whitespace around them and whether they allow whitespace inside them.
Then, we only add whitespace inside if it's allowed and any of the children wants it. This collapses many occurances of things like
to just
This also means we can expand the list of pretty-printed children without becoming extremely noisy, changing
to
Moreover, the
wants_pretty_aroundlist can safely be expanded to elements likeprewithout risking whitespace inside of them.Together, these changes make the output quite a bit more readable without introducing significant additional complexity. In particular, the pretty printer is still not aware of the lengths of elements.
