To fix it I got rid of the mutex on `TreeWalker` by using `arrow::util::internal::TaskGroup` instead of manually tracking the #/status of in-flight requests. Suggestion to make the code a bit safer.
Basically, as it was, we were not downcasting the array inside the macro, which could cause someone to use the macro n non-string arrays. We can only use
typed_dataif we are certain that buffer[0] is an offset, which is true for strings but not for other things.I also move
let bits_in_bytes = O::from_usize(8).unwrap();to outside the map, so that it only gets evaluated once.
