Hi. We use mapbox extensively. Would like to help keep this library up to date with the upstream native libs so that all features are available. I can do both android & ios native. I'm not an expert in either but I know enough to extend what's already been done. What's the best way to understand where we are currently at in this respect? |

hi there 👋🏿, thanks a bunch for volunteering. Does not even have to be too in depth, think more of a lay of the land. So people for example understand, that UserLocation.js depends on locationManager.js which in turn talks to Android: LocationModule / iOS: LocationModule => which finally talks to the native mapbox/maplibre sdk .... Maybe not the most prestigious task in the beginning, however I think this is a great way to get to know the code base 👍🏿 |

Hey, I wouldn't want to see this library go anywhere, I'd be willing to occasionally fix (upcoming) bugs and add features. I really want to see 3D implemented on the mobile side of mapbox. Let me know if you still need contributors. Amissi |

Reviewing the project I notice several components written in classes, is there any discussion about whether it is a priority to change them to functional components or if you have the idea of migrating them? |

@wootsbot it's not a priority. Migrating to typescript is more a priority. Migrating to functional components would be nice as well, but those changes are not easy to review, and also we had trouble with react-docgen and functional compoents. |

@yewyewxd thanks much, your env seems to be right. I'm not 100% our dev tools run fine on windows, as some of our Checking out and running example app is a good place to start. |

As mentioned in the README on the repos front page - we're in need of additional maintainers.
We have several field where a helping hand would be appreciated:

I just want to state, that you do not need special permissions or something of the like to just go out and start contributing.
