It's been 3 years since the last update so I figured it's time to write a new one.
What happened since then
We have finished refactoring the whole state management and props passing, added strict typing and thousands of tests. We have released new breaking 3.0 and added ton of new hooks and features, and we're now about to release version 3.9 with new custom animations. We moved our website to new domain: https://recharts.github.io. The documentation is now completely generated from source code and guaranteed to be always up to date.
I would like to believe that the new clean state management makes contributions easier. And indeed we're receiving many more contributions than before: we have now 41 open pull requests! Thank you all for your work and for your patience. I'm going through them one by one, even if it takes a bit of time.
AI because of course
And as much as I would like to attribute the increased contribution to the new release, I am sure that the raise of AI made contributions easier than ever before. Which is a good thing!
Some, if not all, of our contributions are made by AI. We know. I use AI myself, it's fine. We have quite strict contribution guidelines, and high quality bar for both human and AI contributions. Most of that is automated so if you do send your contribution you may find the builds failing for one reason or another. This is expected.
What we need now
Now that contributions are easier than ever, the bottleneck became validation. Manual testing, feedback, rendering charts in new and unexpected contexts.
What would be a great help for us:
- If you use Recharts, integrate your CI pipeline with the latest main branch. Let us know if something breaks so that we can prevent regressions before they get to npm
- Keep an eye on newest changes and features and let us know if they are helping and how they make your charts better
- Review pull requests; not the code itself, but the features and public API.
- If you are still using 2.x branch, what is preventing you from updating?
