Figure out how should this interact with OOO metrics
Histogram mathematics is melting me a bit, need to double check this and do something better for Integer histograms

By default, there is no significant performance hit with the PR as st_synthesis is off by default. When enabled though, it has much higher allocs when trying to cache previous, and reference values for native histograms

Ideally we add OOO test and ensure we have some plans.

It would be epic if we could still ingest OOO, but without ST - if not, let's document what happens now and add issue for potential OOO allowance

I see this as a workaround until instrumentation libraries implement start time and start exposing it. Therefore I don't expect this to work for some people (that need the absolute value of counters as well) or at all pretty much.

I don't quite understand why we don't insert a zero value sample at the beginning. Not inserting the zero makes the staleness tracking more complicated and might actually drop samples that we scraped (as in process lived for a short time and crashed). To reintroduce the missing samples you'd have to detect such case in staleness tracking, but you could just have the zero sample. Plus easily keep exemplars.

I think we need to establish a baseline performance and there's plenty to improve I suspect (integer histograms direct handling, flatter data structure, optimize away double reset detection for native histograms - tsdb head does it again).

On the plus side we could finally have a simpler way to add type correct staleness markers - as opposed to the heuristics we do now.
