Hi, thank you for working on this, I think the feature makes sense.
I gave a couple of comments and tried a build from the branch.
Have you tested it in k8s ? I put it into a small test setup (microk8s) , but didn't get the extra labels in the UI (http://localhost:9090/targets). Should they be there?

Largely looks good to me, just docs on how to enable this are missing (the docs changes only include what new metadata labels are added not how to enable them). Thanks for removing the extra informers on cronjob and deployments, I agree these are unnecessary.
