The empty cases check is unnecessary. If cases is empty, then cases[..cases.len() - 1] would be cases[..0] which creates an empty slice, and find() on an empty iterator returns None, so the diagnostic would never be triggered anyway. This check adds complexity without functional benefit.

Sorry I'm slow to come back to you. Have been away.
I'm not convinced that Copilot's intervention here was helpful. When it said that if cases.is_empty() is not needed, it was just plain wrong, as then cases[..cases.len() - 1] would panic if cases is empty. I see you've fixed that by using saturating_sub. But whether that's better than the original or not in terms of perf, I'm not sure.
But either way, the difference is very minor, so let's go with it!
