Summary

The TUI's /model command confirmation echoes the raw alias the user typed (e.g. gpt4), instead of the resolved canonical provider/model ref that the gateway actually applied.
This is misleading: the confirmation text can disagree with the model shown in the status bar immediately below it.
Fix: use the resolved field already returned by patchSession ({ modelProvider, model }) to build the confirmation message, falling back to the raw input if resolved is absent.
Out of scope: any change to how the gateway resolves aliases, or to the status bar itself (which already showed the correct resolved value).
Success: /model <alias> confirmation matches the resolved model shown in the status bar.
Reviewers should focus on: the fallback behavior in src/tui/tui-command-handlers.ts when result.resolved is missing or partial (older gateway versions).

Real environment tested: Local OpenClaw + Ollama (ollama/llama3.2), macOS, TUI (node openclaw.mjs tui).
Exact steps or command run after this patch:
1. ollama serve
2. node openclaw.mjs gateway start
3. node openclaw.mjs tui
4. Type /model llama3.2
Evidence after fix: see attached screenshot - confirmation reads model set to ollama/llama3.2, matching the status bar (agent main | session main | ollama/llama3.2 | ...).

Observed result after fix: confirmation message and status bar now agree.
What was not tested: behavior with non-Ollama providers (no API keys configured in this environment), and the fallback path (resolved field absent) — covered only by unit test, not live.
Proof limitations or environment constraints: only one model (ollama/llama3.2) is in the local allowlist, so the alias and canonical name are similar; the mismatch is still visible (llama3.2 vs ollama/llama3.2) but would be more dramatic with a short alias like gpt4 → openai/gpt-5.5.

Tests and validation

Commands run: node scripts/run-vitest.mjs run src/tui/tui-command-handlers.test.ts — 58/58 passing.
Regression coverage added:

- "falls back to raw input in /model confirmation when resolved ref unavailable"
What failed before this fix: the new "shows resolved canonical model ref..." test would have failed against the old implementation (it asserted addSystem was called with the raw alias gpt4 instead of openai/gpt-5.5).
