Summary

  • Problem: iMessage sometimes echoes outbound messages back from chat.db with leading NUL corruption markers, so the echo-cache text key does not match the cached outbound entry.
  • Why it matters: the reflected echo can be forwarded as a new inbound message instead of being recognized as the already-sent outbound message.

Rebased this branch onto current origin/main (090063bd43e) and force-pushed the refreshed head (fc70152ff6d).

Validation on the refreshed branch:

  • pnpm test extensions/imessage/src/monitor/monitor-provider.echo-cache.test.ts
  • pnpm check:changed

This keeps the diff as the same narrow NUL-byte echo-cache normalization fix, just refreshed onto current main so CI can rerun on a current base.

Updated this branch on current main.

This now keeps the existing leading corruption-marker cleanup shape and extends it to strip only leading NUL markers, so interior NUL bytes still stay distinct. I also kept the regression coverage for leading NUL matches vs interior-NUL non-matches and added the changelog entry requested in review.

Thanks for this! Closing as obsolete — the wrapped imsg-rpc text strip in #64000 (782b5622b6) happens before echo-cache.ts sees the value, so the NUL bytes this PR handled never reach the cache anymore.
