This PR fixes a UX regression where editing the WebSocket URL in the Overview > Gateway Access panel would discard the in-memory Gateway Token on every keystroke. The old @input handler compared the trimmed new value against the trimmed existing URL and cleared token whenever they differed; the new code simply spreads the existing settings and updates only gatewayUrl via the extracted updateOverviewGatewayUrl helper.

Key points:

Behavioral change: The token is now preserved in memory when the user edits the gateway URL. Previously any actual URL edit (even fixing a typo) wiped the token.
sessionStorage side-effect: Because applySettings → saveSettings → persistSessionToken is called on every input event, the existing token is now written to sessionStorage under the new (potentially partial) gateway URL key on each keystroke. Before this PR, those writes were no-ops because the token was cleared first. Given that sessionStorage is tab-scoped and ephemeral, and that tokens keyed to a wrong gateway simply cause an authentication failure rather than a breach, this is an acceptable trade-off.
URL import/confirm flow unchanged: The pendingGatewayUrl/pendingGatewayToken flow used when a gateway URL arrives via the query string remains untouched, as confirmed by the unmodified "keeps a hash token pending until the gateway URL change is confirmed" browser test.
Test coverage: A new node-environment unit test directly exercises updateOverviewGatewayUrl, and the existing browser integration test is updated to assert the new expected behavior.

Confidence Score: 4/5

Safe to merge — the change is intentional, small in scope, and covered by both unit and browser integration tests.
All changed code paths are exercised by targeted regression tests. The only trade-off (token written to sessionStorage for new/partial gateway URLs on each keystroke) is inherent to the existing unbounced save-on-input design and is bounded by sessionStorage's tab-scoped, session-only lifetime. No logic or syntax errors were found.
No files require special attention.

Follow-up: the full upstream CI/check suite is green on this PR now. The change stays narrowly scoped to preserving the in-memory gateway token while editing the WebSocket URL, and I’m happy to adjust quickly if maintainers prefer a different test shape.

The PR is a plausible implementation candidate for #41545, but it overlaps with other open candidates and needs maintainer judgment on the selected-gateway credential boundary before merge or supersession.

Best possible solution:

Keep this PR open for maintainer review or rework. The best path is to resolve #41545 with one canonical Control UI change that avoids surprising token loss during normal Overview URL edits while preserving the documented selected-gateway credential boundary, then land regression coverage and close the overlapping PRs as superseded.
