One potential issue with the proposed approach is that all cycles are printed in the same way. If I understand correctly, it is not possible to distinguish the pretty-printing of The old patch by Alain on the bugtracker had the advantage of keeping track of cycle identities, and properly adding a bound name at the first occurence of a cycle. It would print something like The downside with this is that it enters the nightmare of having several possible syntaxes which makes decision-making impossible. I don't think this really matters, in the top-level you can always perform some more operations to get a better idea of what the value is. The important thing is just not to print hundreds of lines of output for simple values. |
