The Noto Sans Ethiopic typeface is, in a sense, even more "serify" than the Noto Serif Ethiopic typeface. This is primarily noticeable in the 3rd order letters, such as ኢቢጊዲ, where the serif on the diacritical mark of the Sans typeface is even larger than it is in the Serif typeface. To illustrate:
The result is that the exaggerated serif size can feel a bit optically prickly.
Describe the solution you'd like
The serif at the end of the 3rd order diacritical marks should, at the very least, be made not larger than its counterpart in the serif style typeface. This may also mean slightly reducing the width of the extension stroke of the diacritic.
I can offer to experiment with several alternatives to find a sizing that seems more natural and proportionally balanced against the serif style.
Describe alternatives you've considered
The only alternative that comes to mind is to simply live with the exaggerated serifs.
Additional context
For comparison, the balance of the serif on the 2nd-order diacritics seems more natural.
