Overview
MinTTY terminal (e.g. git bash, MSYS2, or Cygwin) freezes with Microsoft Pinyin (Microsoft Simplified Chinese IME) previous version.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Add Microsoft Pinyin (Microsoft Simplified Chinese IME) keyboard. In keyboard options, turn on compatibility option(Microsoft Pinyin settings>General>Use previous version of Microsoft Pinyin)
  2. Set Microsoft Pinyin as your default keyboard and set Chinese to be its default mode.
  3. Enable "Let me use a different input method for each app window"
  4. Launch a MinTTY terminal (e.g. git bash for Windows, MSYS2, or Cygwin) for Windows. Now the IME will automatically switch to Microsoft Pinyin, which is in Chinese mode.
  5. Hit Ctrl + Space to switch from Chinese mode to English mode.
  6. Type English letters(e.g. "git").
  7. The terminal does not display user input. The cursor stops blinking. It cannot be shut down through the "X" button at the top right of the windows nor through Task Manager.

Other interesting things
Reproducable on multiple machines. However, it may be worth noticing that I could not reproduce the problem inside Windows Sandbox for all 3 softwares (git bash for Windows, MSYS2, Cygwin).

Environment
Windows 11 Pro
x86_64 (64-bit)
Microsoft Windows [10.0.26200.7840]

All tested problematic MinTTY terminals(git bash for Windows, MSYS2, Cygwin) are in their latest distribution(as of 2/26/2026).
