[MacOS 26 Tahoe] High GPU usage by WindowServer on Intel-based MacBook Pro (2019, 16-inch) when running VSCode #267065

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes/No

  • VS Code Version: 1.104.0 (Universal)
  • OS Version: macOS 26 (Tahoe)
  • Device: MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019 (Intel chip)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon Pro AMD Radeon Pro 5300M

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open VSCode on Intel-based MacBook Pro (2019).
  2. Observe system performance via Activity Monitor.
  3. Notice that the WindowServer process shows unusually high GPU usage (around 90%).

Expected Behavior:
VSCode should run smoothly without causing excessive GPU usage on Intel-based MacBooks.

Actual Behavior:

  • WindowServer process consistently shows high GPU usage (up to ~90%) when VSCode is running.
  • System performance becomes noticeably slower.
  • This issue is not obviously observed on Apple Silicon (M-series) devices.
