Type: Bug

The following example works in versions < 1.85.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Git clone: https://github.com/GordonSmith/vscode-extension-samples
  2. Checkout GH_201196 (See: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-extension-samples/pull/935/files for code changes)
  3. Open the tree-view-sample folder in VS Code
  4. Follow instructions in https://github.com/GordonSmith/vscode-extension-samples/blob/GH_201196/tree-view-sample/README.md to build and run
  5. After the first "label updates" the tree will stop functioning and will not even respond to "refresh" requests.

It works as you would expect in VSCode < 1.85.0
