Welcome to the Jorne keyboard wiki! Also see my nRFMicro, Jorian and QMK wikis (Jorne also officially supports ZMK).

Also see Dark Matter, Nijuni, Chokofi, Khonsu, Corne-UL, Corne v4 PME, Ergonaut One (XIAO), PNCATEHO, Lapka, and Mriya.

Jorne is essentially Corne keyboard with an extra key for brackets and international layouts.

Disclaimer

Like I said, you can go to the moon without a computer, so, you know, the thing we are talking about is 40% keyboard, which means only 40 keys. It's very hard to type Chinese, Japanse, Russian with 40% keyboard. It's like doubling your work. Yeah, you can. But if you need to type that two hours a day you gonna see a doctor within a month. The keyboard layout is derived from Jian layout (just visually, there was no actual copying involved). You could've bought Jian from its author, /u/KgOfHedgehogs, he ran a high quality commercial batch.

TL;DR

Consider a prebuilt Corne from Aliexpress first (search for Corne Keyboard), there are plenty. Or, download PCB gerbers from the Hardware article, upload to PCB factory (default settings, 1.6mm 2-layer PCB, 5 or 10 pcs), pay something to get them made. Read nRFMicro wiki, buy SuperMini controllers. Order other parts on Aliexpress. Read this wiki for 2 weeks.

FAQ

  • Q: If I snap the pinky columns off a Jorne, does it become a Corne?
  • A: Yes. A 100% stock Corne (same dimensions/schematic/firmware).
  • Q: There are a lot of PCB versions, which ones should I use?
  • A: I recommend Classic 2.1 (no hotswap) PCBs, they are the cheapest. Asymmetric (3.0) PCBs are way more expensive.
  • Q: Why aren't there capacitors in the keyboard RGB circuit? All RGB strips have decoupling capacitors.
  • A: A keyboard power rail is a grid, not a strip, so there is no inductance to decouple. Proven to work since Helix (2020).
  • Q: Do I need a 4-pin (TRRS) cable for the wired keyboard to connect the halves?
  • A: No. Splits use 1-wire serial now, so 3-pin (TRS) audio cable is enough, unless firmware uses i2c (which is never).
  • Q: Is Jorne optimized for Pro Micro drop-in wireless substitutes, such as nRFMicro?
  • A: Absolutely, Jorne is a Pro Micro split, hence TRRS. Wireless parts belong to the controller, not to the switchboard.
  • Q: I love those acrylic cases, should I order an acrylic plate for the hotswap version?
  • A: No, switches need 1.5 mm to snap onto and 1.5 mm acrylic cracks easier than a newborn baby with osteoporosis.
  • Q: I am a 3D printing enthusiast. May I print a FDM case for Jorne?
  • A: You may, but FDM is for doghouses and lawn chairs. Try FR4/CNC/whatever.
