Summary of Changes

Hello @brianquinlan, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request updates the Dart analysis options template to explicitly ignore the unnecessary_import lint rule. This modification aims to prevent build failures or warnings in projects that utilize package:google_cloud_gax, where protocol messages can lead to redundant import detections due to their presence in multiple packages, ensuring smoother development workflows.

Highlights

  • Dart Linting Rule: The unnecessary_import lint rule is now explicitly ignored in the analysis_options.yaml template. This change addresses potential false positives arising from package:google_cloud_gax protocol messages that might also be found in other packages.

Code Review

This pull request updates the analysis_options.yaml template to ignore the unnecessary_import lint, which is necessary due to how package:google_cloud_gax handles protocol messages. The change is correct, but I've suggested an improvement to use a standard YAML comment. This will ensure the explanation for ignoring the lint is present in the generated file, making it clearer for developers using the generated code.

Mentioned in chat, copying here so it's easier to find.

I can think of two "clean" ways to modify the codegen that you can consider, otherwise I think ignoring the diagnostic is fine. One option is to add import prefixes so the uses are unambiguous and always justify their specific import. Another is to add explicit show clauses to the imports to disambiguate.

I filed googleapis/google-cloud-dart#51 to track this.
