why remove the cast here?
Reading the full addOnFailureLIstener it looks like it would be equilievent to cast exception to a SplitInstallException before the switch and get rid of all other casts.

SplitInstallException does not override getMessage so it uses the Exception getMessage method

Following up from last week I think you can change where the cast takes place so that there is only one cast in this method.
