I have run this through the tests that were previously failing and I no longer see such dramatic changes.
I can only assume that the FRoB run that had failures was also pulling in some other patch.
This does result in some minor pixel differences, but those all appear to be acceptable changes (e.g. a few pixels along the edge of something involving a gridview).
This change reduces compositing needs for grid views that do not overflow.
