For the past week or two, we've been having persistent but not 100% reproducible failures in flutter/packages CI (usually Mac_arm64 custom_package_tests master; I think we've seen it in Mac_arm64 custom_package_tests stable but I'm not 100% sure about that) affecting anything that runs Pigeon tests (notably, all flutter/flutter -> flutter/packages rolls, since they run all tests). We have not been able to reproduce this locally. Originally I thought it might have been triggered by a Dart change, but when I tried to bisect it each individual PR passed. I've also had at least a couple of PRs that ran all tests but didn't fail. At the same time, the roller is pretty much completely blocked. We have multiple PRs where we re-ran the failure many times and never got it to pass. We're over 150 commits behind flutter/flutter master at this point.
One theory is that this is an OOB issue caused by a change on the bots, and specifically we're wondering if the reason it sometimes passes is due to which bot gets the test. It may also be something that came in with master, but that doesn't explain why it isn't always reproducible, but also doesn't seem to be flake in that re-runs aren't helping. Maybe a combination of the two, where a specific combination of bot and an upstream change (Dart compiler???) causes a bad state.
We don't know why it's the Pigeon test specifically, but these tests are compiling an unusual amount of code, so could be triggering some edge case.
Any suggestions from the iOS team about how to narrow this down would be extremely helpful.

We have not been able to reproduce this locally. Originally I thought it might have been triggered by a Dart change, but when I tried to bisect it each individual PR passed. I've also had at least a couple of PRs that ran all tests but didn't fail. At the same time, the roller is pretty much completely blocked. We have multiple PRs where we re-ran the failure many times and never got it to pass. We're over 150 commits behind flutter/flutter master at this point.
One theory is that this is an OOB issue caused by a change on the bots, and specifically we're wondering if the reason it sometimes passes is due to which bot gets the test. It may also be something that came in with
master, but that doesn't explain why it isn't always reproducible, but also doesn't seem to be flake in that re-runs aren't helping. Maybe a combination of the two, where a specific combination of bot and an upstream change (Dart compiler???) causes a bad state.We don't know why it's the Pigeon test specifically, but these tests are compiling an unusual amount of code, so could be triggering some edge case.
Any suggestions from the iOS team about how to narrow this down would be extremely helpful.
