The initial macOS support for video_player will have the publish: call ifdef'd out because it's not yet available on stable, and it shouldn't be a significant issue not to have it (it looks like it's there to trigger detachFromEngineForRegistrar: calls, and that's not wired up yet on macOS anyway). But once stable supports publish: for macOS, there's no reason to keep the extra branching.
