I'll try to come up with a unit test on monday. I'm out sick today.

I was unable to get a unit test working for this. I'm going to try to do some of the ground work to do it in a separate PR. I don't want to hold back this change any longer. I keep running into problems with the c++/objc bridge and the linker related to symbol visibility.

The scoped observer probably belongs in fml but we can move it there if there are more users of the same.

Yep, that was my thought. Or we can edit scoped_protocol to take in a custom deleter, then I wouldn't even need it.
