Interledger is an evolved protocol that was first proposed in a whitepaper by Stefan Thomas and Evan Schwartz.
It was then developed further as an open project with many contributors (including myself) being employed at Ripple's research lab during roughly 2015 - 2018. During this time, it went through a lot of iterations, and ended up being focused mainly on streaming payments (STREAM/ILPv4), which forms the basis of the Web Monetisation research that Coil and others are now pushing forward.
In the meantime, Interledger itself is now maintained by the Interledger Foundation, and there actually is a conference coming up in a couple of weeks.
Just when the Interledger protocol development approached its culmination in STREAM/ILPv4, Bob Way and I (both employed at Ripple at the time) proposed a variation on the dominant sender-to-receiver version of Interledger, called Interledger Full Circle. We worked on it a little bit and then basically left it in a proof-of-concept state and went on to work on other things.
This issue is to track a possible continuation of the research into Interledger Full Circle.
If and when such a continuation would find a home (here at Federated Bookkeeping Research? as a Ponder Source project? or at Interledger maybe?), I'll update this issue to point there. For now I'm just creating this issue so I have something to point to in the context of Federated Bookkeeping. :)
