This appears to have been added to replace the `fam` package in an early version of DMS with Courier for IMAP instead of Dovecot on an Ubuntu 14.04 base image. It does not appear to serve a purpose anymore.

This appears to have been added to replace the
fampackage in an early version of DMS with Courier for IMAP instead of Dovecot on an Ubuntu 14.04 base image.I have tried to reproduce the failure with
telnetexample (from reference blogpost below), but it logs in successfully without thegaminpackage. Probably whatever caused it, is no longer relevant to the current image? So this package doesn't seem to provide any value to retain.References
It is too old to have a PR. The original project author committed to master directly in Sep 2015 referencing this issue and their blogpost to explain it. That is also where the
docker/5000user was introduced into the image.Type of change
