  2. Allow optional DigestAlgorithm parameters. 

    RFC 3447 and RFC 8017 allow for optional `DigestAlgorithm` `NULL`
parameters for `sha*` algorithms and require `NULL` paramters for `md2`
and `md5` algorithms.
