📅 It's Not Too Late to Join Us in Denver for OSSNA and CHAOSScon!

We are excited to connect with you next week in Denver for Open Source Summit North America. You can connect with us 3 ways:

1. Swing by the CHAOSS booth for a sticker and a chance to win a raffle! (Or if you're a CHAOTIC and you're interested in helping us staff the booth for an hour, we can hook you up!) We will be in booth B15, along the back wall.

2. Register for the add-on CHAOSScon event! Registration is $10 and you can read more about CHAOSScon on our website.

3. Connect with CHAOTICs who are giving talks! We now have a calendar of upcoming talks by CHAOTICS.

📅 CHAOSScon Africa is Coming!

CHAOSScon Africa has been confirmed for August 13!
The CfP is open until June 20, and you can submit your proposal here.

This event is co-located with OSCAFest 2025, and will be held in Lagos, Nigeria.

🚫 Meeting Cancellations and Changes

Because of upcoming events and low attendance, there are some meetings that have been removed from the calendar. If you are subscribed to the relevant CHAOSS meetings, you should see this change reflected on your calendar, but just in case:

This week: No Funding Impact WG Meeting June 18
Next week:

• No OSPO WG Meeting June 26
• No Weekly CHAOSS Community meeting June 24

Also of note the Scientific Software in Open Source WG* has changed to every other Tuesday at 10:00 am US Central/Chicago time. The next meeting is Tuesday, June 24.

👩‍🏫 Two New Practitioner Guides Released

@geekygirldawn, @peculiaruc, and the Data Science Team have released two new Practitioner Guides:

• Sunsetting an Open Source Project
• Building Diverse Leadership

The CHAOSS Practitioner Guides were featured in IEEE’s Computer magazine (June 2025) in an article titled, From Data to Action: Building Healthy and Sustainable Open Source Projects (PDF). Congratulations to @geekygirldawn for making this happen!

🎙️ Two New CHAOSScasts Released

👉 Episode 111: Peculiar C. Umeh, Aishat Muhammed, Dawn Foster, Elizabeth Barron, and Harmony Elendu talk about CHAOSS's Education Project and how this valuable resources is not only helpful for newcomers, but a great place for them to engage with the Community.
👉 Episode 112: Chrys Wu, Nicole Huesman, Georg Link, PhD, and Ruth Ikegah discuss open source community health metrics and the findings from the “State of Open Infrastructure” report by Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI).

CHAOSS at UN Open Source Week, and Hosting Side Event

Our UN-SDG Working Group was born at the UN's Open Source Week in 2024. Fast forward to one year later and the group is thriving! Many of our CHAOTICs will be attending the week's activities (June 16-20), and we will be participating in the day of Side Events being hosted by various organizations.

Add your Community Contributions via an Issue on GitHub

We now have an easier way to add your community contribution to our community-contributions.md document. Simply open an issue using the CHAOSS Contribution Issue Template, and when you submit your issue, your contribution will be added.

CHAOTIC of the Month Nomination Form

Have you noticed a fellow CHAOTIC doing something amazing for CHAOSS? Has there been someone who is going above and beyond? If you'd like to nominate them for CHAOTIC of the Month, now you can! With our CHAOTIC of the Month feature, we like to celebrate their contributions to CHAOSS and enable our whole community to get to know them a little better. It's a great way to show appreciation for our fellow CHAOTICs so don't hesitate to nominate someone through our CHAOTIC of the Month Nomination Form.
