Service Desk & Project Sync — support, delivery & insights, built on GitHub
What it is
Two products in one: a branded, customer-facing support portal on GitHub Issues, plus an advanced delivery board on GitHub Projects with SLAs, time tracking, estimates and insights teams usually bolt on with separate tools. Customers raise tickets; your team works a combined service-desk + dev board — synced replies/issues, a repo-backed knowledge base, powerful notes features, velocity and reporting.
Why teams use it
- Support is scattered across email, chat and ad-hoc issues — customers have nowhere to raise or follow requests, and that work is cut off from where it's delivered.
- GitHub Projects tracks the work brilliantly, but teams still wire up other tools for SLAs, time-and-estimate reporting, velocity, and a customer-facing view. Woden brings all of that onto GitHub.

Key Features
Customer support
- GitHub-native ticketing — portal-raised tickets become real GitHub issues; portal replies are written back as issue comments, attributed to the real author. Markdown everywhere, with a formatting toolbar and preview. Internal notes stay hidden from customers.
- Branded portal & personalised URL — your name, logo, and a custom URL slug (e.g.
/acme/portal); installable as an app (PWA) on phone and desktop. - Repo-backed knowledge base & release notes — publish markdown from your repos; pick files or auto-publish a whole folder.
- Flexible sign-in — your team uses GitHub; customers use email/password (via Entra External ID), Google, or GitHub.
Delivery board & insights — enhancing GitHub Projects
- Combined board — service-desk and development work together on GitHub Projects v2. Move cards, assign, label, branch, and create issues straight onto the board. Switch between board and list views, group by status/assignee/priority, show or hide columns, search, and filter to assigned to me or completed in the last N days to keep a busy board readable. Parent/child issues are first-class: progress chips on parents, children tucked away by default, and closing a parent closes its children.
- SLA tracking — first-response and resolution targets per priority, business hours, and breach indicators on the board.
- Time tracking & estimates — a timer, manual entry, or the
/spentcommand; estimate in hours, days, or story points and see variance, velocity, and hours-per-point. - Insights dashboards — ticket volume, state and priority, first-response/resolution distributions and time logged, plus delivery metrics: SLA attainment and out-of-SLA / breaching, throughput and velocity, lead/cycle time, aging of open work, and month-on-month trends.
- Team notes — a shared markdown scratchpad for runbooks, escalation contacts and how-we-handle-it notes; keep a note private or share it with the whole team, and pin the ones everyone needs.
- Bring your own AI (all plans) — optionally connect your own Claude or ChatGPT to read and draft your notes via a secure, opt-in remote connector (MCP), authorised by OAuth on Microsoft Entra External ID. Woden runs no AI model; locked notes are never exposed, and it can't delete anything. Off until you turn it on, revocable anytime.
- Multiple organizations — installed Service Desk on more than one org or account? Switch between them from the header without signing out; each org keeps its own board, members, and plan.
- Roles & access — admins manage Settings; agents can be scoped to service desk and/or development, with development visibility following each agent's GitHub repo access.
- Push notifications — branded alerts for replies, status changes, and SLA reminders that deep-link straight to the right ticket in the right account.

How It Works
Woden Service Desk uses GitHub App webhooks to keep the portal aligned with GitHub:
- Installation events create your tenant record.
- Issues and issue-comment events keep tickets and replies in sync both ways.
- Projects v2 events drive the combined board.
- Marketplace events apply your plan and any trial state.
Portal-raised tickets are created as GitHub issues in your chosen destination project. Replies posted in the portal appear as issue comments; internal notes remain private to your team. Your GitHub repositories, issues and projects remain the source of truth — Woden reads and enriches them, it doesn't lock you in.
Separately, the optional AI notes connector lets your own AI tool reach your notes over an opt-in OAuth connector — outside the GitHub webhook path, and only when you enable it.
Privacy & Security
We store only the ticket and tenant metadata needed to operate the portal, notifications, and plan gating — not your repository source code (only the markdown you choose to publish is read). We do not need GitHub secrets, Actions/workflow administration, or unrelated repository contents.
- GitHub access via short-lived installation tokens
- Webhooks validated with HMAC SHA-256 signatures
- Hosted on Microsoft Azure (UK South), GDPR-compliant
- Minimal permissions: Issues (R/W), Contents (R/W), Projects (R/W), Metadata (R)
- The bring-your-own-AI notes connector is opt-in and revocable; when enabled, only the notes you expose are sent to your chosen AI provider (e.g. Anthropic/OpenAI) — Woden stores no token and runs no model
