Rationale for this change

50.0.0 was released 11 months ago. Remove the APIs that are deprecated since then.

removal of some deprecated functions

Should we document at what rate deprecated APIs will be removed? 4 major releases does seem sufficient to me, but perhaps others downstream have a different view. 🤷
