The ASCII based fort.24 files are fairly unwieldy (both in size and for adcprep I/O) and seem like a good candidate for moving into a netCDF format. The format should be coordinated with the OceanMesh2D developers (@WPringle and @krober10nd) since OceanMesh is the only well-defined tool I know of to build these files presently.
