Description
Following on from the work in #66377, this issue serves as the iteration / tracking issue for Notes enhancements, tasks, and bug fixes planned for WordPress 7.0.
As noted during the planning for 6.9 (see #66377 (comment)), the following were scoped out of that release and thus something to focus on during the 7.0 cycle:
- Support for Notes on specific content within a block (Inline block commenting #59445)
- Support for Notes on content across more than one block (e.g., text spanning multiple paragraph blocks) (Support Notes on content spanning multiple blocks #73416)
- Add support for rich text to Notes (Add support for rich text in Notes (emoji, basic formatting, images) #73413)
- Add support for @mentions (Add support for @mentions in Notes to notify mentioned users #73415)
- Introducing a new "Edit mode" tool for exposing Notes features (Explore editor view modes for Notes (similar to Google Docs viewing, editing, and suggesting modes) #73410)
- Sending notifications for Notes (beyond what was achieved in Notes: Send email notifications to post author #73030, beginning with Add Notification support for Notes (fka Block Commenting) #72184)
- Add "apply suggestions" feature to Notes (Explore “Apply Suggestions” support for Notes #73411)
- Minified Notes experience (Add a “Minified Notes Mode” for reduced visual footprint (similar to Google Docs' “Minimize comments”) #73417)
- Expose Notes on post previews (Allow Notes to appear on post previews with a custom capability (aka "Reviewer-friendly workflow") #73418)
- Consideration for how Notes interacts with Real-time Collaboration (Sync Engine and Real-Time Collaboration #52593)
