By checking for if a feature that wants to be used exists, and if it doesn't, add the header that adds the macro or type definition.

I've tested to compile and run this on an amd64 system and it compiles fine. I haven't been able to find anything that breaks from these changes and as they are surrounded by ifndefs, it shouldn't impact when being used with a libc that defines for example ALLPERMS or MIN, as the includes won't be added then.

Hi,
thank you very much for the pull request. We still use primarily the sssd-devel mailing list for contributions, so if you don't mind, I will forward the patch there (we are working on synchronizing PRs and patches better, but we are not there yet)

We should not define _GNU_SOURCE ourselves.
I would remove define __USE_GNU as well an include "config.h" in the beginning of file.
_GNU_SOURCE is automatically part of config.h if available on system.

Ah, will change that. I didn't really find any good way to check for the existence of struct ucred, but if config.h supplies that info, then its better to just include that instead.

I've now pushed a commit that fixes that and also tried and verified that it all compiles like it should with that change.

BTW I will check header files on FreeBSD for gid_t and ALLPERMS bad MIN.
I would prefer to have standard files included and it's very likely that they are included
on glibc by other header file. Therefore it works with glibc.

BTW which distribution use musl libc?

Sounds like a good thing to double check, I only have an AMD64 gentoo system to double check and try stuff on, and that is also why I decided to check for feature instead of something larger like #ifndef GLIBC or such, to hopefully make the patches less intrusive overall.

There are a few smaller ones like sabotage and sta.li, but I'm working a bit on getting more stuff to work on gentoo (with hardening) with musl.

I checked header files on FreeBSD and gid_t is defined in sys/types.h as well.
Could you check header sys/types.h in musl libc?

BTW ALLPERMS defined in sys/stat.h also on FreeBSD. But current fallback definition in util.h cannot cause any problem because sys/stat.h is included before your change.

It is true that the MIN macro in sys/param.h but I could not find it anywhere in a documentation/manual pages. We already have fallback definition of the macro in different file src/util/safe-format-string.c. I think we can include sys/param.h in src/resolv/async_resolv.c + src/util/safe-format-string.c and remove fallback definition of macro.
BTW the sys/param.h is included in more files without any #ifdef-s

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 some deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

The removal of those functions we lose some debug messages, which is the
least of problems now. Also instead of re-setting the watchdog timeout
in case of time-shift (please, see b8ceaeb for more info), let's just
re-set the timer's time.

Along with this commit, the function to teardown the watchdog has been
removed as it's not used anymore.

exit the let the monitor restart the process.

A proper fix for the clock screw situation should be implemented on
samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic (or boottime) clock.

cache_req: improve debugging

The original debugging was unnecessarily large. I removed request name
from all debug messages (keeping the request number). The name is now
print only when a new request is created. I also added an explicit message
to see what object are we currently looking up.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and a single byte is written to this pipe (which
is an async-signal-safe operation) and the logic currently done by the
timer handler will be done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by _exit(). Personally I don't
think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages properly in this
specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by _exit(). Personally I don't
think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages properly in this
specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by kill(-getpgrp(), SIGTERM).
Personally I don't think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages
properly in this specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by kill(-getpgrp(), SIGTERM).
Personally I don't think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages
properly in this specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by kill(-getpgrp(), SIGTERM).
Personally I don't think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages
properly in this specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by kill(-getpgrp(), SIGTERM) (or
_exit(1) considering the cases where setting up the process group during
the server_setup() has failed).
Personally I don't think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages
properly in this specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

WATCHDOG: Avoid non async-signal-safe from the signal_handler

While debugging rhbz#1396912 a deadlock on sssd_be was noticed[0] and
it's been caused by the use of non async-signal-safe functions from the
signal_handler (please, see man 7 signal for more info about which are
the async-signal-safe functions that can be used).

In order to work this situation around a pipe has been added to the
watchdog_ctx structure and, in case of clock screw,  a single byte is
written to this pipe (which is an async-signal-safe operation) and the
logic currently done by the timer handler to reset the watchdog will be
done inside the fd handler in a safe way.

With this patch we ended up losing some debug messages as
orderly_shutdown() has been replaced by kill(-getpgrp(), SIGTERM) (or
_exit(1) considering the cases where setting up the process group during
the server_setup() has failed).
Personally I don't think is worth the trouble to try to log those messages
properly in this specific case.

It's really worth to mention that a proper fix the clock screw situation
should be implemented on samba's side, by having tevent using monotonic
(or boottime) clock.

ldap_child: Fix use after free

In case on any krb5 related error, we tried to send string
interpretation of krb5 error tb parrent in prepare_response.

However, we cannot use global krb5 context (krb5_error_ctx)
because the context is every time released in done section of
ldap_child_get_tgt_sync.

This patch rather return duplicated string to prevent use after free.

ci: Exclude IPA, Samba, and AD tests

** Temporary commit as each provider is ported to new failover **

These provider tests will often fail because they have not yet been ported
to the new failover code, and they call into ldap functions which
are utilizing the new failover. For example crash in :
