Jabs!

Overview

  • Slightly changes the way rapid jab inputs are handled (see Technical Breakdown for details)
  • All characters* who previously had forced transitions into rapid jab now have both a gentleman and a rapid jab
    • Removes the previous implementation of pressing Special to transition to jab finisher
    • Hitboxes and attack data have been adjusted for these new jab 2/3s
    • *Zelda, Villager, and Palutena have unchanged behavior aside from the removal of the Special gentleman input
  • All characters now have normalized jab combo behavior; hold to gentleman, multi-press to rapid jab
Technical Breakdown
  • Previously, rapid jab inputs were handled by counting each press and release of the Attack button during all jabs leading up to the frame they are able to transition into rapid jab (except for the press to initiate the first jab). If said counter was above a certain value then the rapid jab would occur
  • This change removes the increment on release, meaning that only distinct Attack presses count towards the rapid jab requirement counter
    • Said counter has been lowered to 1 and 2 for characters with single and double jabs respectively (pre-rapid transition)
  • In summary, at least 1/2 distinct Attack presses are required before the character normally transitions into their final jab in order to perform rapid jabs (this ends up being very lenient in practice)
