Added Managed Lustre support in GKE a4x-max-bm blueprint. User can uncomment the specific sections and use it as a storage option.
Tested by consuming the PVC in a Pod, which will mount the Managed Lustre file system. Validated read/write.

Summary of Changes

Hello, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request integrates Google Cloud Managed Lustre support into the GKE a4x-max-bm blueprint. It provides the necessary configuration variables and module definitions, initially commented out, allowing users to easily enable and deploy a high-performance Managed Lustre file system as a storage option for their GKE workloads. The changes aim to simplify the adoption of Lustre for demanding HPC applications on GKE.

Highlights

  • Managed Lustre Configuration Variables: Introduced new commented-out variables (lustre_instance_id, lustre_size_gib, per_unit_storage_throughput) in the gke-a4x-max-bm.yaml blueprint, allowing users to define Managed Lustre instance parameters.
  • GKE Cluster CSI Driver: Enabled the enable_managed_lustre_csi flag within the GKE cluster configuration, preparing the cluster to integrate with Managed Lustre.
  • Managed Lustre Module Definitions: Added commented-out module definitions for private_service_access, lustre_firewall_rule, managed-lustre, and lustre-pv, providing a template for users to deploy the necessary components for Managed Lustre.
Changelog
  • examples/gke-a4x-max-bm/gke-a4x-max-bm.yaml
    • Added commented-out variables for Managed Lustre instance configuration, including lustre_instance_id, lustre_size_gib, and per_unit_storage_throughput.
    • Enabled the enable_managed_lustre_csi flag within the GKE cluster module settings.
    • Included commented-out module definitions for private_service_access, lustre_firewall_rule, managed-lustre, and lustre-pv to facilitate Managed Lustre deployment.
Activity
  • The author tested the integration by consuming a Persistent Volume Claim (PVC) in a Pod, successfully mounting the Managed Lustre file system.
  • Read and write operations to the mounted file system were validated.

Code Review

The pull request introduces commented-out configurations and module definitions in examples/gke-a4x-max-bm/gke-a4x-max-bm.yaml to enable Managed Lustre support for a GKE A4x Max BM cluster, alongside enabling the Managed Lustre CSI driver. A key review comment points out that the managed-lustre module needs gke_support_enabled: true in its settings to ensure correct operation with the GKE CSI driver.
