VBCW: Of Monowheels and Telephones.

One of the joys of VBCW is fielding ‘what-ifs’ and ‘bloody unlikelys’ in a homely atmosphere. Never-used prototypes and crackpot militias running through picture-perfect country sides. (Of course you can make it as serious and brutal as you like!)

First we have the 1st Corps Mono-Cycle. This monowheel is based on an actual design, albeit the original did not have a machine-gun. The model has 3 or so pieces, and assembly was easy.

Next we have ‘The Croydon Crusher‘ from Empress Miniatures. Also based on an actual design, upgraded from a Maxim to a Vickers MG.

For some reason I felt I needed a dismounted version of the driver, and I found him in Footsore Miniatures British Militia Characters. Originally on roller skates, I cut them down to ordinary boots.

A vital communications hub – The Great British Icons (WWII) – Police, Telephone and Pillar boxes, from Warlord games. They are resin castings, not 3D prints.

They provide an objective for a game – Both sides seek to control the only telephone in town; There is a military secret in a letter in the postbox, both sides want it… and so on.

The third piece from the set is a Police Box. I have to keep it safe so it doesn’t disappear into my wife’s Tardis collection.

Scenario ideas? One side is holding a prisoner until transport arrives to take him away. The other side seeks to release him before transport arrives. (Has he already put his secret in the postal box? Will commanding the telephone box delay the call for transport?)

It’s just a handful of VBCW toys, from fabulous vehicles to mundane scenery. Each one delights me somehow, and makes VBCW come alive for me.
