Hello, I’m a 22 year old guy from Naples, Italy. I’m a libre software activist at NaLUG, my local Linux user group, where I make public presentations. I also occasionally work on projects of my own. I like almost anything related to creativity, so I make a lot of videos, photos, vector and raster drawings, sound effects, etc. I like boomer shooter games, electronic music and anime. I don’t like other people very much. My CV is available in english and italian. My name is pronounced /dʒanmarko ɡardʒulo/.

Chat Control is still under active discussion and we might lose the battle
Chat Control is an EU law proposal that enforces mandatory client-side scanning of end-to-end encrypted communications through the use of AI for the alleged purpose of preventing the spread of child abuse material. This is a trojan horse for violating every european citizen’s privacy with the typical “think of the children” excuse, opening the gates for a myriad of false positives, more proprietary AI overreach and setting a precedent for violating basic human rights. High profile individuals, like politicians, are conveniently exempt from the scanning! Gee, I wonder why…
Thanks to all the concerns raised by EU citizens, the Danish government has compromised on the scanning by making it voluntary and not mandatory. This is certainly an improvement, but it’s far from canceling Chat Control entirely, which is the only way to preserve the privacy and freedom of EU citizens and to not start a domino effect in other parts of the world.
Contact your MEPs and present your concerns through fightchatcontrol.eu. Stay tuned to Patrick Breyer’s posts for new details.

Google seems to have partially backed down on Android developer verification, for now…
By 2026, Google wanted to introduce a developer verification program, forcing any developer of Android apps to submit their government ID and to pay a fee for distributing apps outside the Play Store, preventing the installation of any non-verified app on certified Android devices (basically any Android system that ships Google Play Services from the factory). They say it’s for your safety against malware, but they actually want to control what you can or cannot install on your own device, discouraging developers that don’t want to publish their apps on the Play Store, as the vast majority of Android users are running certified devices and wouldn’t be able to install non-verified apps. It would also put an end to third-party app stores such as F-Droid and Accrescent.
Thankfully, they decided to back down on requiring ID verification, but we need to stay vigilant for any new move that Google might make with this initiative and beyond. In any case switching to a degoogled Android system or a mobile Linux system are your best options to ensure long term freedom from Google. If you’re italian, I have a few videos on degoogling and on how to install GrapheneOS, a secure and private Android fork for Google Pixel devices (and more coming soon).
By the way, here’s a list of the most notable Google misdeeds that they’ve done over the years.

Switch to Linux–your Windows 10 system is no longer supported!
On October 14th, 2025, users of Windows 10 stopped receiving security updates and support from Microsoft, rendering millions of computers insecure and outdated, many of which cannot upgrade to Windows 11, due to its absurd hardware requirements, and will likely become e-waste. The Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 will expire on October 13th, 2026. Enrolling into it will only delay the inevitable at the cost of you having to use a Microsoft account or paying up.
However, this might be the perfect chance for you to switch to Linux, a family of libre, open source operating systems that give you a more private and customizable computing experience, without the need to throw away your old machine. Check out the End of 10 campaign, which aims to help people switch to Linux by providing general guidelines and contacts for local Linux user groups and computer repair shops. Also check out the Linux distributions that I personally recommend!
