Being able to monitor the health status of such components and platforms, along with the overall health status of the operation supported by such information systems is of paramount importance. The immediate solution for these monitoring needs is to use vendor specific applications, which results in having to look and understand several different interfaces. As it will be explained, there are available solutions that integrate such needs on a single platform. However, these solutions failed to provide a monitoring dashboard for the entire system operation, with highly customizable dashboard interface, easily defined metrics and easy mobile application availability. This paper describes an architecture for configurable dashboards capable of presenting heterogeneous metrics, side by side, regardless of their origin. A prototype, based on such architecture, is presented as a proof of concept. This prototype is being used to monitor the Cape Verde's Justice Information System. The result, based on the proposed architecture and prototype, is a custom tool with a single configuration file that can be adapted to different thresholds, metrics and monitoring scenarios.

Current datacentres are being used more efficiently, new hardware tries to comply with energy saving and software helps to fulfil these goals. On the other hand, the resource optimisation can also be undertaken by maximising the existing resources, even if not intended for cloud purposes or have state-of-the-art hardware. This paper investigated how to integrate common desktop PCs, with a wide cardinality inside a university campus, on a cloud infrastructure to lower cost efforts, and how to deliver appropriate services to researchers. We propose a model to categorise applications, show how to build the infrastructure and present performance and consumption results.

The technology has evolved and continues to grow exponentially. Nowadays, any sector uses it to optimize resources to maximize production. Aquaculture can't be different, so it's necessary to create a system that allows monitoring and controlling water quality. This system will help establish the ideal depuration conditions. The paper presents a real-time water quality monitoring and controlling system for the depuration of bivalve molluscs. This system is composed of a set of sensors and actuators, to obtain water quality data and to control it, and web and mobile applications, so that farmers can visualize in real-time the data acquired by the sensors and control the water quality remotely. Furthermore, these applications could set rules to optimize the depuration process and define an ideal water quality to control it automatically. The developed system allows farmers of bivalve to permanently monitoring over the aquarium, without their presence on site. CCS CONCEPTS • Computer systems organization → Sensor networks; Sensors and actuators; • Hardware → Wireless integrated network sensors; • Networks → Wireless access points, base stations and infrastructure.

These conditions require the development of software testing in order to validate the systems. Run a large battery of tests sequentially can take hours. However, tests can run faster in a distributed environment with rapid availability of pre-configured systems, such as cloud computing. There is increasing demand for automation of the entire process, including integration, build, running tests and management of cloud resources. This paper aims to demonstrate the applicability of the practice continuous integration (CI) in Information Systems, for automating the build and software testing performed in a distributed environment of cloud computing, in order to achieve optimization and elasticity of the resources provided by the cloud.

Some difficulties arise when it is necessary to deal with data stored in a relational database because relational databases do not provide an object-oriented interface to their entities. The most common solution consists in developing a specific interface that guarantees some specific requirements. Here, we explain a methodology to implement an application-side object-oriented platform in order to access stored procedures in relational databases.

A common way to provide services to Digital Libraries is with the use of Web Services but Web Services are usually based on centralized architectures. In our work we propose that Peer-to-peer networks can be used to relieve the weight of centralized components on the Digital Library infrastructure. One of the challenges of this approach is to develop a method that allows the integration of existing web services into this new reality. In this paper we propose the use of a proxy that allows exposing Web Services that are only accessible trough the peer-to-peer network to the outside world. This proxy also manages interactions with existing external Web Services making them appear as part of the network itself, thus enabling us to reap the benefits of both architectures.
