1. Postgraduate Programmes at the University of Energy and Natural Resources
The postgraduate programmes, MSc/MPhil in Land Degradation Neutrality and PhD in Sustainable Land Management, are developed with the support of the GEO LDN Flagship, UNCCD, and the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR). They aim to equip professionals, young scholars, and practitioners with the knowledge and skills to effectively address global land degradation challenges and promote cross sectoral synergies.

Prof. Amos T. Kabobah, Dean of International Relations and Co-Chair of GEO-LDN, participating in a technical session during the GEO-LDN regional workshop.

2. Monthly Online Seminars
The monthly online seminars provide an open platform for developers and practitioners to share innovative tools, projects, and experiences in the fields of remote sensing, data analysis, and spatial and land-use planning. The seminars are organized every four to six weeks and feature 30–40-minute presentations, followed by a question-and-answer session. Participation is open to all and free of charge; however, attendees are encouraged to register early to stay informed about any schedule updates or adjustments.
All sessions are conducted online via Microsoft Teams, allowing participants to join from anywhere in the world. Recordings of each seminar are made available on the GEO-LDN website to support wider access and continued learning. Find out more about our online seminars: GEO-LDN | GEO-LDN Online Seminars
3. Global & Regional Dialogue Forums
The global and regional dialogue forums are an interactive and participatory format that aims to create a sustainable and ongoing exchange and learning process with our community. Through peer-to-peer and south-to-south exchange, we work to illustrate best practices, direct input from experts in the field and capacity development opportunities. LDN is also strongly linked to Integrated Land Use Planning (ILUP) which can help address poverty reduction, food security and biodiversity conservation. Find out more about GDF 2023 and other upcoming dialogues here.
4. Working Group on Capacity Development
The aim of the Working Group on Capacity Development is to design an innovative capacity-building mechanism that contributes to the achievement of SDG 15.3, while addressing the needs of diverse stakeholders at the regional, national, and individual levels. The outputs of the Working Group on Data Analytics and Standards, together with other reporting requirements and decision-support tools, will serve as key inputs for the development of capacity-building interventions. Rather than creating training content directly, the Working Group on Capacity Development focuses on exploring and promoting effective and innovative mechanisms to strengthen the necessary capacities across the three levels of intervention. 5. E-Learning Course on Land-cover Data for SDG15 Monitoring
In collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the GEO LDN Flagship has developed a free e-learning course on the use of land cover data and its crucial role in tracking Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15, Life on Land. The course supports efforts to promote sustainable forest management, combat desertification, address land degradation, and protect biodiversity. It is primarily designed for government technical officers responsible for SDG indicator reporting but is equally relevant for professionals working in environmental monitoring and land management.

6. GEO-LDN Helpdesk (via [email protected])
The GEO LDN Flagship has established its first Regional Helpdesk, hosted by the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) in Kenya. The Helpdesk supports RCMRD member states and other Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in monitoring SDG 15.3. Its services focus on the use of the LDN Toolbox and the application of the LDN Response Hierarchy to guide countries in achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN).
