Issue Understanding Styles

  • Well I was going to attach screenshots but cant do that with your interface. Here is my issue. I have created several text styles in the Customize Panel, but they are not available in the designer when I want to assign to an element. So I went to Global Styles to add one there, but there is no way to create a new style.

Where do I define and edit styles so that I can assign them. The 5 videos I have watched have options that I do not see in my designer interface.

  • Hi there,

I don’t understand your question without screenshots.

You can upload your screenshots to https://postimages.org/ and share the link with us.

    Let me know 🙂

  • Let me rephrase my questions.

    1) Do I create text styles in Appearance  Customize  Typography or in Generate Blocks  Global Styles?

    2) I cannot create a style using Global Styles as there is no “add new” button. Also I cannot create a style in the editor as the “add” button is grayed out.

    3) Since I cannot create a global style there is nothing in the drop down in the designer to select a style. So I do not know how to assign a style to any text elements.

  • 1. General typography styles should be set in the customizer. Only if you want to have a different style from the inherited style for specific GB blocks, then you use the block-level typography.

    2. Global styles are created in the block editor when a GB block is selected. Check this doc:https://learn.generatepress.com/blocks/block-guide/getting-started-generateblocks/generateblocks-pro/global-styles/#creating-a-global-style-on-the-block

    3. See #2.

  • Ok the styles from customizer are applying automatically now where they were not before. I also realized to create a new style you have to enter a name before you can create, that’s a little backward but I get it.

    Have questions about backgrounds

    1) we added a background to a container and no matter what settings I toggled it always appears as in image: https://i.postimg.cc/qvbZvrZp/Background-image.jpg. I finally tried to set the width of the container and the image displayed properly. However I could not set width to 100% to span the whole screen. We do have a global constraint of 1300 px but how do I override that for certain sections.

    2) I saw a setting where we could scroll text over this background earlier but I cant find it now. How do I do this?

    3) in the image I sent, you can see our designer background is grey. I did not set this. Where do I change? the designer is outside of any container.

  • 1. To have a full-width layout, we would recommend:

a). Set the content container to full width, you can do so via a layout element (mass operation) or the layout metabox.

b). Now every container you added to the page is full width by default. If you want to contain a section, simply set a max-width for the container, and set its margin-left and margin-right to auto to center it.

As for the container, a container with a background image is an empty <div>, you need to add content to the container or set a min-height for it.

    2. You can set the background image’s Attachment Type to fixed.

    3. Can you link me to the page in question?

  • I did try that option for layout previously but I do not have access to all the properties you showed. Look at: https://i.postimg.cc/cCBDDYSC/Missing_Element_Options.jpg. Content and Display do not show on my screen. How do I activate those. I assume once I have these I can set width. What I had done was to set my width to 1300px in the customizer. I would prefer to have the default be this and a rule if I wanted full width per element, but I can do the way you recommended if that is best.

I understand now about background image not “really” being there and I did find the flex element.

Look at: https://i.postimg.cc/GtxMMYCB/New_Page.jpg. See how the copy scrolls under the top links but is not hidden. If we set a color on the links the site slides under correctly, but we really want a white background. How to fix this, will the layout set properly from above do this?

  • Your layout element UI has some issue, can you click the Screen option, then set the layout to 1 column to see if that helps?
    https://app.screencast.com/7hxWhsdBtuJ5P

See how the copy scrolls under the top links but is not hidden.

I don’t quite understand what you are trying to achieve. Can you try to explain some more? Thanks!

  • Yeah I tried that but no change. About 10 days ago when I first started these options were there. Then last w/e they disappeared. I do not remember doing anything to hide them, but must have. I even started with a new element and do not see these. What could i have set to hide these and how do I get back.

I did try setting a container to full width but it only went up to the width of what i set in customized 1300px, so setting a design element is important.

On the top menu I want the site copy to slide under but not be visible. I am going to try working on this.

  • Can you provide an admin login so I can check the issue in the backend?

Please edit your first post on this topic, and add the site credentials in the private info field. It will only be seen by the support team.

  • I have no problem doing that but what name and email should I use?

  • Thanks for creating the user account; however, you didn’t attach your site’s WP login link. Please add it to the private info field as well.

  • Done. You can look at the Demo page to see the issues. I will check in again Friday.

  • There is nothing in the private info field, can you re-check?

Make sure you edit the 1st post of this topic and add the info to the private info field.

  • Ok tried again

  • Hello.

Can you please provide the URL in the private section? We can only see the credentials.
