Poldhu Amateur Radio Club (PARC)
The PARC club meets in the Marconi Centre, which is a building on the historic site of Marconi’s first transatlantic wireless experiments. The centre acts as a museum owned by the National Trust, but manned by PARC members, and open to the public (on Sunday afternoons throughout the year and on a Wednesday from Spring until Autumn). For club activities, there are two main radio rooms connected to various outside aerials (including a 3-element beam, plus various wire and vertical ones).
For more information written for Visitors to the Marconi Centre, please view our separate website:
Club Facilities
There are four radio rooms in total named: Flemming, Franklin, Paget and Kemp. More information on their normal uses will be documented later.
We have a kitchen with a fridge, microwave and kettle, for member use. There are also three toilets, one designed for disabled use. The entry to the building also provides a ramp for disabled access.
Club Events
PARC holds club events throughout the year, including, but not limited to:
- Club Meetings. We hold a monthly Club Meeting in-person at the Marconi Centre on the first Saturday of the month as part of our Saturday Sessions (see below). We also (informally) meet up on a Sunday, when we have club members and volunteers helping visitors to the Marconi Centre. We also have regular club meetings via Zoom.
- Satuday Sessions. We are often open on the first Saturday of the month for a radio-related talk/presentation as one of our monthly Saturday Sessions. These sessions are a club social meetup, even if no talk/presentation is scheduled.
- Club Radio Nets. We hold a weekly club radio net on 80m every Tuesday morning. We have also previously held club nets on 2m; we will have new nets on VHF/UHF in 2026.
- Special Radio Events. Several special events happen on dates throughout the year. Some of these celebrate key anniversaries of Marconi’s wireless achievements (in December, January and April). Club members and guest radio amateurs operate from the radio rooms at the Marconi Centre for much of the day, when these events occur.
- Social Events. We hold regular club social events throughout the year, including a Christmas meal, Barbeque, Summer Meal, etc. These are held at various venues, as well as at the Marconi Centre.
