I fully intend to post the rest of my Hannibal 1x06 recap this evening. But, just in case my not-entirely-justified exhaustion (I got a full night's sleep! Why am I more tired than ever!?) gets the better of me, I thought I'd go ahead and post this.

Actually started working on this around Episode 3 or 4, which was well before Amber's birthday. In a way, it's kind of a belated birthday gift, as we both over-identify with champion for Miss Hobbs. This was something I couldn't just do as a comic-- I had to break out the big guns. Watercolor pencils, chalk ink, india ink, and Smooch glitter on bristol board; the original is about 8x10. You can find a non-text version at the bottom.

Actually, a zombie invasion might brighten Abigail's day. Hannibal, on the other hand, would starve. Hahahaha.

No, I have not fallen off the face of the internets, though I was seriously concerned myself, there for a while. ^^; Hi! *waves brightly* I used to exist here, before I switched jobs, my home life went to heck, my computer died, and my mother decided we were going to play an even more insane game of family feud than usual. Seriously, I love the woman, but there are days I think she ought to work as an interrogator for the CIA. X_x;; Add to that the fact that LC manages to involve us in Army Life even though he's not technically in the same state, the resignation of half my goddamn department, and a previously undiscovered love-life... Yeah, it's been a crazy three months. Some of it's good crazy (my heart goes pitter-patter, Sumomo! ^_~), some of it's bad crazy (hello, Aunt Lynette), and some is just indifferent (I mean it, half my department. On the same day.) but it definitely hasn't been dull.

I'm currently set up on my brother's computer. My own refuses to boot up past the kernel but-- thank G-d for small mercies-- will tolerate being used as an external hard drive. So, I have all my stuff, it's just... a lot like having a time share. *frowns* I've been hanging around a little bit at camp_toccoa, because there's nothing like a war fandom to put things in perspective. That, and my WinNix addiction has been augmented by a strong predilection for Speirs/Lipton. (I'm a sick girl, I know.) At any rate, I've missed you all, and I have been lurking on your personal journals*, occasionally posting. It's definitely past time to come out of hiding, though. ^___^

And what better day to do so than the anniversary of that glorious day when our Amber-chan decided to join us on this admittedly shady level of existence? That's right-- October 21st** is minttown1's birthday, a day for celebration, indeed! Otanjoubi Omedettou Gozaimasu, my dear! (Happy Birthday!) Many, many happy returns. I have a present for you, right around.... here. My apologies in advance for the poor color-- I'm not using my regular scanner, and this new one hates my guts. Granted, it's been a while since I've seen a picture of you, but I hope this works. Here's Amber and her furry posse, ready to slay zombies, aliens, cylons-- whatever the hell gets in their way. **hugs tight** I tried to fit as many fandoms in as possible: House of Anubis, M*A*S*H, Harry Potter, Red Vs BlueStar Trek, Stargate: Atlantis, Band of Brothers, Resident Evil.... plus, you have a squiddy. Always important to have a squiddy.

*hugs Amber again, and then everyone else*

I am very, very glad I still exist***. ^_~
Love,
Meredith

*Oh, that didn't sound creepy at all.
**Okay, so technically I'm an hour and forty five minutes late. I tried! ^_^;;;;
***And thank you, Leigh, for being an angel and checking up on me. *squish*

I almost never get up early enough to watch the Today Show and, even if I did, it's really not my cup of tea. However, I was up early today to let the plumber in. He's here to fix the upstairs toilet (yes, the one that's been in the hallway since August ^^;).

I come into the kitchen to find my brother and LC having coffee while the TV yammers in the background. More specifically, Ann Curry extolling the virtues of 2011 beauty products. Products like this apparently stimulate your DNA to keep your skin looking younger. My link isn't the exact brand that they were talking about, but it gives you the general idea.

Sam, LC and I looked at each other.

I say, "T-Virus!"
"Goddamn zombies," Sam mutters.

Suddenly LC's enormous stash of ammo in the basement seems a lot more reasonable. ^_~

AMBER!!!!! *wibbles*

It's that time of year again! A most joyous time of year, when we celebrate the birth of my very dear, champion-of-puppy-people, zombie-friendly, squiddie-lovin' friend Amber. Otherwise known as minttown1, my Amber is a witty, empathetic, and delightfully playful young woman. She has a wonderful ability to cut to the heart of adult matters, but still turn around and be a kid with the best of them. A more supportive friend would be hard to find. *hugs tight* I'm so very glad to know you, my dear, and I hope you have a wonderful birthday. *pours the Swamp Gin* Many happy returns of the day!

I have a snail mail package for you (which I'm woefully behind in getting off, but it'll be in the mail on Monday), but I also wanted something for the day itself. So, here it is: From Seattle, With Love. I think the guys actually managed to turn out... well, masculine. ^_~ And look, Jed has a tie! I hope this amuses you at least a little.

Enjoy your birthday, darling. You deserve a great day!

Monday again. Like a certain orange-and-black striped cat, I harbor an inherent suspicion against Mondays which seem, on the whole, to be almost invariably evil and to, at times, even beat up other days of the week and cut in line.
... Okay, so they don't really. But it seems like it! *sticks out tongue at Monday*

Only only two more weeks and then exams. That's three weeks only someone finally hands me my diploma. I can make it, right? Right?

Has anyone else had to read John Rawles Law of Peoples for a philosophy course? I need to commiserate regarding the intense evil of this book, and political philosophy in general. X_x;;;;

On the bright side, 28 Weeks Later is out. I can't wait to see it, even though I've heard tell that it's very gory. I can't imagine it's gory on the scale of the Hills Have Eyes remake, though, and as long as it doesn't reach that level, I'll be okay. And it's British!Zombies. Who could ask for anything more?
(Actually, I can-- the 9th Doctor and Rose, fighting British!Zombies. ^__^)

Also, word on the street is that Smallville's Lana Lang will [cut for spoilers and lana hate]Collapse )

Have a nice day, ladies! May your Mondays be relatively inoffensive, or at least easily defeated! ^_^

My brother and I went to see Ghost Rider yesterday (which was, by the way, completely awesome: fighting skeletons! Motorcycles! On FIRE!) and, aside from a cool movie, we also caught the trailer for the third installment of Resident Evil. You can find the trailer online here-- you need quicktime to watch it, though.

Amber-- it's gunslinger!Alice! Is that not unbelievably cool? Alice in leather pants! With six-shooters! And cowboyboots! Way too many exclaimation points, but I'm looking forward to my zombies.

In the meantime, if anyone is looking for something to hold off the zombie hunger until next fall, I strongly 'rec World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks. Which, incidentally, my eldest niece recently used for her book report. The teacher sent an interesting note home, that's for sure. ^_^;;;;

This little romp through fandom land is brought to you by the fact Meredith doesn't want to work on her thesis.

I like having a brother who's generally as nerdy as am I. We can watch BSG, Firefly, and horror flicks together. We can lament the seeming inability of writers/directors to produce a coherent Lovecraft movie. We can compare the Resident Evil video games to the movies, and argue about who would come out on top in a fight between the Kryptonians and the Goa'uld.

Sometimes, though, I think Sam wishes his sister wasn't quite so nerdy. Or slashy-- maybe both. ^_~

I've already forced him to admit that there was *something* going on between Jack and Daniel on Stargate. Then, tonight...

I hate university computers. Damn Appleworks just ate half an entry I’d typed up. The gist of the beginning was pretty much me yammering on about Mystery Science Theater 3000, and killer shrews. I decided that I like both Joel and Mike, but that I like Mike better because he’s unassuming and childlike and slightly crazed, whereas Joel is confused and laidback. I also wondered whether or not I should really be thinking about characterization when the main aim of the show is to be goofy and make fun of bad movies, but I decided that the characters are part of what makes it fun.

Then, in an attempt to completely ignore the fires of exam hell burning all around me, I was making a list of…
