Whee, look at my shiny new Boomer/Athena mood theme! My brother gave me Battlestar Galactica: Razor for Christmas, and it reminded me of all the reasons why that show kicks so much ass. I was very dubious about Razor (the previews made it look like it took place solely during the first Cylon war), but after getting used to the bit of revisionist history re: Kendra's existence, it was actually very good. Very, very good. Plus, I laughed at young!Adama-- he looked like beefcake. Big slab-o-man-meat. (Insert MST3K comments here: "Grisle McThornbody! Chunk Fistmeat! Crud Bonemeal! Kirk Ironsides!") No wonder Saul is desperately in love with him. ^_~

Anyway, it's that time of year again. It's time for Meredith to showcase her oobsessive nature and record her fic-posting for the year 2007. It's frightening to me that I enjoy book-keeping. *sheepish*

Here's hoping everyone has had a lovely (and lively!) Halloween! Working with children makes this holiday especially fun, since their excitement is contagious. There's something freeing and evocative about dressing in costume, to have a day/night to "come as you aren't". ^_^

I've been kind of MIA lately, and not for any clear reason. I tend to be wiped out after work, so I just come home and decompress by watching tv and drawing, or reading fanfic. My brother is traveling with the drumline on weekends, so I've been watching his girls, but that's pretty much it. For a while, I felt like Carol had flown the coop, but I have managed to write five pages of a Torchwood fic, and four more pages of "We Were The More Deceived" (The 4400).

Torchwood is my new fannish obsession. BBC America has finally started carrying it (last Saturday was Episode 1.09), and I've been completely seduced by the passionate, playful and still gut-wrenching glory that is Jack/Ianto. JACK/IANTO! I could have sworn I'd never ship Jack Harkness with anyone on a permanent basis (he's such a lovable man-whore), but there you go. And since I also 'ship Doctor/Rose, it all works out happily. I love the premise of Torchwood, and how willing the writers are to push the envelope. Good times! I've really lost interest in season three of Doctor Who (except the last few eps with Jack), but the Master is starting to draw me back in a little. He just enjoys being evil so much! He and Lex Luthor are villains that fully realize and acknowledge their evil, as a personal way of spiting their once intimate enemies. I like playful evil. ^_~ (Okay, so maybe I 'ship Doctor/Master a little, too... X_X;;;)

Nothing else to report really, save that I'm going to try and polish up some fic to post soon. I miss writing. ^__^

Hope you all have tons of candy and fun!

The other day, just out of curiousity, I decided to figure out how much fan fiction I have stored on my computer:

Fanfiction Stored on Meredith's Computer:
Jack/Daniel (Stargate SG-1)-- 169 fics
Simon/Joe (Demon Under Glass)-- 3 fics
Nick/LaCroix (Forever Knight)-- 9 fics
Jim/Blair (Sentinel)-- 107 fics
Snape/Harry (Harry Potter)-- 91 fics
Spike/Xander (BtVS)-- 168 fics
Qui-Gon/Obiwan (The Phantom Menace)-- 12 fics
Clark/Lex (Smallville)-- 163 fics
Merry/Pippin (Lord of the Rings)-- 5 fics
Bruce/Dick (Batman)-- 64 fics
Harry/Peter (Spiderman)-- 2 fics
Tim/Kon (DC: Teen Titans)-- 24 fics
F/F Fics of Various Pairings: 168 fics

... I really don't think there's anything to add to that. Except possibly a plea for the number of a slash addict therapist. X_x;;/^_~
I should probably be ashamed. *wink*

Hey-- I'm not sure how many people remember this, but I finally managed to finish another chapter of my DC/Smallville mixy-crossover-thing. ^_~ This chapter was a little difficult, because I wanted to keep things funny, and yet not short change some of the character interactions. Hopefully it's not as bad as I'm afraid it is. In any case, this chapter is definitely dedicated to arianstarr and blisstasteful. Ask and ye shall receive! ^___^

I will kiss your ring (or other appropriate accessory) if you give me feedback. Really. ^_~

Monday again. Like a certain orange-and-black striped cat, I harbor an inherent suspicion against Mondays which seem, on the whole, to be almost invariably evil and to, at times, even beat up other days of the week and cut in line.
... Okay, so they don't really. But it seems like it! *sticks out tongue at Monday*

Only only two more weeks and then exams. That's three weeks only someone finally hands me my diploma. I can make it, right? Right?

Has anyone else had to read John Rawles Law of Peoples for a philosophy course? I need to commiserate regarding the intense evil of this book, and political philosophy in general. X_x;;;;

On the bright side, 28 Weeks Later is out. I can't wait to see it, even though I've heard tell that it's very gory. I can't imagine it's gory on the scale of the Hills Have Eyes remake, though, and as long as it doesn't reach that level, I'll be okay. And it's British!Zombies. Who could ask for anything more?
(Actually, I can-- the 9th Doctor and Rose, fighting British!Zombies. ^__^)

Also, word on the street is that Smallville's Lana Lang will [cut for spoilers and lana hate]Collapse )

Have a nice day, ladies! May your Mondays be relatively inoffensive, or at least easily defeated! ^_^

Back when the insanity of finals was still upon me, I happened to be ducking in the South Quad building for something to eat when I had the misfortune to stumble across a television already blaring news about the 2008 elections. In March of 2007. All these big wigs forming exploratory committees about running for the oval office, and staring the mud-flinging before the ground in Ohio had unfrozen enough for there to *be* actual mud.

I don't care if you're a Democrat, a Republican, an Independent, or a three-tailed pogo-stick riding leopard from Altair 7-- it's too freak'n soon for election politics.

In this spirit, I scribbled down some campaign ideas for my beloved Smallville Lex Luthor, who-- in case you haven't been paying attention-- is the most awesome Lex Luthor _ever_, recent Lana-induced character assassination aside. So, without further ado, I give you a most formidable opponent, running on the Supervillian ticket:

At last, she writes something! I was almost ready to start putting my muse's picture on milk-cartons. ^^;;; But in waltzes Carol, last friday, with this disturbing little buget to offer. It's Smallville, heavy heavy on the Clex (well, duh ^_~), and only spoilery in a general, vague sense. Meant to take place in the current season, and the only other warning is that Lex's brakes seem to have stopped working. Opps. Bad Clark, no cookie.

Had a devil of a time coming up with a title for this. I do hope you enjoy it, and shall be forever in your debt if you could take just a moment to extra to comment. ^_^

Heh. Meredith spent her weekend with her DVDs of Lois and Clark, Season Four. It's definitely the kookiest of all the seasons, but no more bizarre than the comics. Nothing gets anywhere near the crack that is DC! Still, my favorite season is the first, mostly because it has the classic set up, with Lex Luthor as the Bad Guy. SV's Lex Luthor is now my official 'cannon' Lex (*chants* clex, clex, clex...), but I do like John Shea's Luthor. He so obviously enjoys being evil, but he's got this geeky streak that you see too, occassionally. Like in "Vatman", when Clone!Superman (created by Luthor) turns on Lex and leaves to fight the good fight. Lex stands in the ruins of his lab and shakes his head. "You feed them, you guide them, you raise them up from a petri dish--- then, one day, they grown up. And the phone never rings."

Still, I love my SV Lex. *squish*

My class schedule *still* isn't sorted out, but I'm hoping to have that remedied by tomorrow. As it looks right now, I have a lot of downtime. Not as much as last quater when I was down here once a week with nothing to do from noon to six, but still. I have two hours down here before my first class (the bus schedule spares no one!) and then an hour in between each of my three classes. I have a fourth class that's being offered all day for three Saturdays this quarter (Spirituality and Mysticism), and another class I'm hoping to squeeze on Tuesday evenings. We'll see how that works out.
I'm gonna graduate even if it kills me. And it just might.

Nothing else to add, save that Doctor Who Series Two comes out on the 12th. On their own, I think I like Nine better than Ten, but when it comes to their interactions with Rose-- I just can't decide!

I thought that might get your attention. ^_~

Now, then. Meredith has three take-home exams to do. One is a three-prompt piece, due on Wednesday at 4:00 pm. The other two are one page and five pages respectively, both due on Thursday at noon. She's got pressing plans on Monday, which won't leave room for homework. So that's one day out the window.
Obviously, she needs to get to work. So, what has she been doing?

Reading Doctor Who fanfiction. Specifically, Nine/Rose and Ten/Rose. (Though I have a surprisingly big soft spot for the 9th Doctor. The tenth is a cute puckish schoolboy, but there's something very... magnetic about Nine.) It's been ages since I've had a real het 'ship, but I just love their relationship. I've only seen the first two episodes, plus "Fear Her" (I think? The Telly Ep, anyway) and "The Satan Pit" from season two. It was the tail end of "Fear Her" that reeled me in-- thank god for BBC America, is all I have to say. Though waiting a week for a new ep when I know there's more is driving me crazy. Have already put Doctor Who, Season One on my Christmas list.

BBC America also carries the original series, which is kind of painful to watch at times, but also kind of fun. I want Four's scarf. And Nine's coat.

I adore Rose, really I do. Doctors Nine and Ten are squishable. Four... needs a haircut.

Tsk, tsk, Mere. Not another fandom.

But, in the interest of encouraging others to be as not-productive as I am, I have some recs:

First: Disheveled by Rabid1st. Read it and tell me that's not absolutely the most appropriate title ever. It's Ten/Rose, with some Nine/Rose, and it's still inprogress. Before you back away from the WiP, I should tell you that there's thirteen chapters to keep you busy while you wait. Delicious. Great plot, spot-on characters, and alien!sex. The best alien!sex I've read in a while. I don't even like het, and I thought it was fun. That should tell you something. Rabid1st is brilliant. Rose and her Doctor may love each other more than anything, but there's more than an age difference between them-- there's a war, alien cultures, human hang-ups, and other unexpected things to get in the way.

Also: moonspinner's Through A Mirror Darkly and the sequel, Kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope is unfinished, but she's working on it, and you've got plenty to enjoy while you wait for the next part. Leia_N takes the Jedi Order, not to mention our beloved Anakin and Padme, into a very convincing alternate reality. The situations are different, but the characters are very much themselves. Her ideas about the Jedi are interesting and innovative. Scary un-suited Vader, Padme (sort of) in the Jedi Order, and the Emperor mucking about with the Sith. An fascinating and gothic recipe for adventure. Go read it, now.

And just so I don't get slash withdrawal, I'll also rec:

Identical by Lanning Cook. Clex, wandering off into AU somewhere in the second season, and thus saving us from soul-crushing character-rape and Lexana. (*kills Lexana with a fork*) In fact, Lana is barely in the fic at all, which is refreshing, considering the current flavor of the show. But enough about how much I hate Lana. The Clex is dedicated, loving, and wonderfully illustrated. It's the strong friendship (and more!) we all know they're capable of. Plus, you will totally believe Lionel's antics in this. Not OOC in the least. I also like the background she develops for Lex's mom. Beautiful story about making your own destiny.

and

From Mars, With Love by Victoria Wayne. J'onn/Wally (Martian Manhunter/The Flash) But wait, it works! It really, truly does. Everyone is so very in-character, most especially Batman, who seems to be Victoria's forte. But her Wally is delightful, and I can just hear Michael Rosenbaum's voice; her J'onn is convincing and well, alien. 'Cause today's theme seems to be alien!sex. X_x;; J'onn has gone for eons without connection as Martian's understand it-- how will he and Wally cope when they find themselves stumbling into a bond?

then there's

A Beautiful, Untitled Post-Serenity Fic written for me by my beloved and insanely talented Nebula. It's Kaylee/Inara, such a wonderful tapesty of a single moment, it makes you want to sit still and savor it. There really aren't words. Just read it. Now, damnit. ^_~

Yeah, Carol is a total fandom 'ho. Beautiful dark-haired cylons, pretty grease monkeys, redheaded farmer's wives, Nubian queens, vigilante acrobats, Time Lords and their captivating companions-- she's not picky. Oish.
