Gaby David is a researcher and university lecturer. She holds a Ph.D. in visual sociology from the Center for Art History and Theory at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, Paris (EHESS), a Master’s degree in teaching English (TEFL), and a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Paris 8. As a researcher, she is an active member of the “Mobile Creation” group from the Institute for Film and Audiovisual Research (IRCAV), at the Sorbonne Nouvelle. In addition, and as an anglisist, Gaby is also affiliated to Transferts critiques anglophones (TransCrit), at the University of Paris 8.
Gaby is part of the executive committee of the International Association of Visual Sociology, which awarded her thesis as one of the three best theses of 2016. She has participated in several international conferences, contributed to numerous books, and published articles in specialized academic journals both in English and French.
She has been teaching for more than 20 years (in the private sector) and has been teaching for more than 10 years in various departments and universities in Paris.
Currently, she teaches at the Paris College of Art. Her courses are participatory and interdisciplinary, dealing with topics intrinsic to visual digital culture. With an approach at the intersection of the sociology of culture and mobile culture, Gaby studies and analyses the construction of meanings through an analysis of the vernacular uses and practices of popular culture apparatuses such as mobile images and board games.
Artist/performer, ceramist, English teacher, multidisciplinary and polyglot, Gaby has lived in the USA, Uruguay, Israel, and France.
