I'm asking those who love the outdoors to post a picture on your page. A picture that YOU took. Just a pic. No description. The goal is to regain peace and harmony without negativity. Please copy the text, put a picture on YOUR page, and let's look at these beautiful pictures.

Hi. Long time no post!

Just a quick post to let everyone who is left know that I am still around. I haven't posted or commented in a couple of years though I do drop in occasionally to see if I am missing anything. It has been so quiet on LJ for several years. I miss popping in to find 20 or 30 posts and comments etc.

Anyway, what has been happening to me. Not much, I have continued to practice law with my husband but then last October I pointed out to him that I had turned 65 and I really wanted to retire. J answered that he was only 63 and had two years to go. I told him that I really didn't have two more years in me (my patience for clients and dealing with problems has been wearing thin) but that I would agree to work for one more year (until I turned 66) and he could retire early at 64. (We would split the difference). So that is what we are doing. We are retiring at the end of October. We have sold our office building and we are looking forward to not getting up and going to work everyday just in time to enjoy the holidays this year. The deal firmed up yesterday afternoon so we went out to dinner to celebrate this evening.

I am hoping that I will have some time now to do stuff that I have been wanting to do but haven't had the time for. My biggest problem is that I have a list full of things that I want to do but I am not sure where to start.

A quick picture of Pancakes. It is so long since I posted that he and Pepper are now 5 1/2 years old. He is still a sweetheart and the gentlest cat that I have ever had.

Here is Pepper. She is as full of attitude as ever.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915 during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium. "In Flanders Fields" is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres. According to legend, fellow soldiers retrieved the poem after McCrae, initially dissatisfied with his work, discarded it. "In Flanders Fields" was first published on December 8 of that year in the London-based magazine Punch.
It is one of the most popular and most quoted poems from the war. As a result of its immediate popularity, parts of the poem were used in propaganda efforts and appeals to recruit soldiers and raise money selling war bonds. Its references to the red poppies that grew over the graves of fallen soldiers resulted in the poppy becoming one of the world's most recognized memorial symbols for soldiers who have died in conflict. The poem and poppy are prominent Remembrance Day symbols throughout the Commonwealth of Nations, particularly in Canada, where "In Flanders Fields" is one of the nation's best-known literary works.

It is a horrible evening, cold and rainy and it just started to snow about 8:30 p.m. J. carved three amazing pumpkins. Mickey Mouse as a vampire, Linus and the Great Pumpkin and Snoopy and the Red Baron. I took a bunch of pictures but they didn't turn out very well. Here they are so you can get some idea of what they looked like. I felt very sorry for the kids as it was so cold and wet. We only had about 25 at our door this year. Our neighbourhood doesn't have many children any more.

Here are a couple of pictures taken this morning. Pancakes was too busy eating to get a good photo of his face but Pepper was actually still for a couple of minutes.

As you can see, they have similar colouring but Pancakes has four white paws while Pepper has no white fur at all.

Oh by the way, they each have their own food dish but insist on sharing. They seem to be very close even though they are not related. Pancakes cries if he doesn't know where Pepper is and Pepper will go looking for him when he is out of her sight.

We are already exhausted. They have so much energy!
