What does Xbox mean?

Xbox is a series of home video game consoles manufactured by Microsoft. When Microsoft moved into the development of game consoles, some developers of the Microsoft’s DirectX team built a game console prototype based on Microsoft’s DirectX technology and called it the DirectX box, later the name was shortened to Xbox.
DirectX is a collection of Application Programming Interfaces (API) for handling tasks related to multimedia and games that run on Microsoft’s Windows operating systems.
