What does VLSM mean?

A Variable Length Subnet Mask (VLSM) is a method of allocating IP addressing resources to subnets according to their individual need rather than some common network-wide rule. VLSM allow the use of different masks for the same network, which allows to conserve IP addresses and use available address space more efficiently.
