What does IELTS mean?

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an international test on English language proficiency. IELTS assesses the English ability of non-native English speakers. It uses a nine-band scale to identify levels of proficiency, from “non-user” (band score 1) through to “expert-user” (band score 9).

There are two types of IELTS test:
IELTS Academic: intended for people applying for higher education or professional registration.
IELTS General Training: intended for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes.
