What does Hotmail mean?

Hotmail Hotmail was a free web-based email service founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith and launched in July 1996. The founders tried all kinds of names ending in ‘mail’ and finally settled for HOTMAIL, as it included the letters “HTML”.
In 1997, Hotmail was acquired by Microsoft and is now branded as Outlook.com
