What does Hadoop mean?

Hadoop Hadoop is an open-source software framework for storing and processing big data in a distributed computing environment. The core of Hadoop consists of a storage part “HDFS” (Hadoop Distributed File System) and a processing part “MapReduce”. Hadoop was created by Doug Cutting and Mike Cafarella in 2005. Doug Cutting named the framework after his child’s stuffed yellow toy elephant. Doug used the name for his open source project because it was relatively easy to spell and pronounce, meaningless, and not used elsewhere.
