Geojit was founded by Chenayappillil John George with his partner Ranajit Kanjilal in 1987. The name Geojith is a combination of the names of both partners, "Geo" from George and "Jit" from Ranajit.
In 1991, Mr. Ranajit Kanjilal retired from the firm by selling his shares to Mr. George.
