What does GUID mean?

Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) is a unique identifier that is used to identify objects in a computer system.
A GUID is guaranteed to be unique, even across different computer systems and networks. This makes them ideal for use in applications where it is important to be able to uniquely identify objects, such as database records, files, and network devices.
A typical representation of a GUID would be in the format xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx, where each "x" represents a hexadecimal digit (0-9 or A-F).
